Professional actress, Katherine Michelle Tanner has written and composed a brand new musical highlighting the struggles, strengths and success of the American Suffragist Movement and the passing of the Nineteenth Amendment with her new work, Nineteen. Stageworks Theatre in Tampa Bay is producing this new production in celebration of women’s history month and the 100th year anniversary of the passing of the nineteenth amendment. Nineteen runs March 6th-8th  2020 at Stageworks Theatre, Tampa Florida.

Katherine Michelle Tanner is an award winning actress, who has graced our stages in the Tampa Bay Area and across the US since 2004. Katherine wrote the book and composed the score with over ten original songs that unfold this powerful story. Tanner was inspired by her grandmother who was a voter in the first female election of 1920.

Nineteen was one of four winners of CLUTCH PRODUCTIONS EmpowHER Theatre Festival. It was presented in the winner’s showcase at Primary Stages in New York City. It is American History brought to life. Through the actual words and poetry of women like Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Sarah and Angelina Grimke and many other trailblazers of the Suffragist movement, we are taken on the journey of their amazing fortitude and selfless fight for the women’s right to vote.

Katherine Michelle Tanner 

She is best known for her multi-award winning performance of the one woman play The Amish Project (Off Broadway and US Tour)Florida Regional Favorites Proof, August Osage County, Hamlet, Suddenly Last Summer, Metamorphoses, The Drowning Girls, The Glass Menagerie, The Last Five Years, Charm, A Doll’s House, Picasso’s Women and many more.  Films include Waiting on Mary, The Darndest Things, 15 Minutes of Faye, A Chance to Live and Respire Mon Amie.  Television Diamond’s Along the Highway on PBS.  Katherine recently won the Playwriting competition at CLUTCH Productions in NY for her suffragette musical NINETEEN. She has written and composed the plays Shakespeare’s Lovers, Idiot Servant, Echoes, Thumbelina, The Little Match Girl, Pippi Longstocking and her film directorial debut The Crimson Cloak.  She holds a B.A. triple major -St. Olaf College and M.F.A in Acting -F.S.U. Asolo Theatre Conservatory. Katherine is owner and Artistic Director of TRRE FORT PRODUCTIONS, located in Sarasota Foorida, an award winning production company and training studio for actors, dancer, singers, directors, writer, musicians and filmmakers of all ages.

Emilia Sargent, an award-winning actor, director, singer, and educator, is best known in Florida for her portrayals of The Pilot in the one woman show, Grounded (Best of the Bay Best Actress and Theatre Tampa Bay Outstanding Lead Actress), Henrietta Leavitt in Silent Sky (TTB Outstanding Lead Actress), and Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire (Best of the Bay Best Actress). Florida regional favorites include Heisenberg, A View From the Bridge, Betrayal, I Do! I Do!, The Glass Menagerie, Metamorphoses, A Christmas Story, Boston Marriage, Much Ado About Nothing, and My Fair Lady, among many others. She has directed The Children’s Hour and Copenhagen at TampaRep, as well as numerous theatre education musicals at the Patel Conservatory and Corbett Preparatory School. A recipient of the Hillsborough County Arts Council Individual Artist Grant, she studied at The Atlantic Theatre, NY. Emilia now serves as the Co-Artistic Director of The Tampa Repertory Theatre. Passionate about theatre education for youth, she served as Director of Education Programs for TampaRep for nine years and she runs the Emilia Sargent Studio for voice and acting.
